The Teaching Assistant and Copy Editor at SUU News plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of articles published on suunews.net and in the University Journal.

Qualifications:

  • Assist in the copy editing of articles to be posted daily/weekly on SUU news.net and published in the University Journal.
  • Responsible for editing articles and assignments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, style, form, and the Associated Press style.
  • Willing to learn the AP style and incorporate its nuances into the editing process.
  • Flexible work schedule and ability to quickly final edit articles so they can be published in a timely way - previews must be posted in advance of events, sports stories must be published on the same day as the game, and reviews within 2 days of the event.
  • Assist in the grading of assignments and articles for Comm 1130-Writing for Communication, Comm 3502- Practicum News Writing Lab, Comm 2010-Media and Society, and Comm 3140-Writing for Media Audiences.
  • Teach lessons to classes and SUU News staff on concepts such as grammar, writing concisely, editing, sentence structure, punctuation AP style, and basic writing mechanics as needed for refreshers and portions of lectures based on students ' skill.
